This increases the your shields. It won't increase them beyond their maximum capacity.
This increases the ship's thrust, making you go faster.
This increases your ship's weapons.
This increases your number of lives. The maximum is 10. If the you already have ten lives, this power up will increase your shields to maximum.
This is a special power up dropped by the your ship when you die. If you have another life, when you come back in to the game you can pick it up and get all the weapons and thrust that you had in the previous life.

Book of Armaments

DEBRIS has several types of ammo, each of which has different properties.

Energy Bolts - standard type of ammo; they come in ten differnt levels of power, with light blue being the weakest and orange being the strongest. They travel in a straight line for a short time then dissapate.
Energy Globs - Basically the same as the Energy Bolts, except that the globs cause three times as much damage, but it takes them three times as much time to do it. In other words, if they can't drain all their energy into your shields by the time they've gone through you, or if you blow up before they can finish, they'll go on until they hit something else.

Plasma Bolts - These are four times as powerful as an orange Energy Bolt, and will sweep ypu along with them as they drain your shields.

Missiles - These will cause almost as much damage as a Plasma Bolt, except all at one time. They will also home in on the nearest available target. They will detonate if they're hit by another shot.

Lazers - Definitely the most destructive weapon of all, just stay out of range.
Debris - Whenever anything explodes, it spews debris, pieces of itself, in unpredictable directions. This debris will hurt you if it hits you before it disintegrates.

Note:You cannot be hurt by your own ordinance, nor can any of your enemies. One enemy ship, however, can be hurt by another enemy ship's fire.

The player's Ships

At the start of the game, you can choose between 3 different ships named, unimaginatively, Small, Medium, amd Large.

The Small ship is by far the fastest and most maneuverable. It does, however, only have one weapon.

This weapon shoots alternating energy bolts. It starts out at light blue, and increases in strength as you collect more Power Ups until it gets to level 10, orange.

The Medium ship has medium speed and maneuverability, and has ten different weapons. Every time you get a Power Up, you get a new weapon. Each is selected by hitting a number key, 0-9.

1 - This weapon, the weakest one, shoots a steady stream of energy bolts.
2 - This weapon shoots stronger energy bolts rapid fire.
3 - This weapon shoots energy globs.
4 - My personal favorite, this weapon spits alternating white energy bolts.
5 - This weapon shoots white energy globs. It has slow rapid fire, if that makes any sense.
6 - This weapon fires plasma bolts. It does not have rapid fire.
7 - This weapon rotates white energy bolts from side to side.
8 - This one shoots white energy globs like a shotgun. This is my second favorite weapon.
9 - The only weapon that doesn't have infinite ammo, this shoots missles. Each power up after the next one gives you fifteen more.
10 - The last weapon is the dreaded lazer. Use with caution, however, as it has a limited range, tends to push enemies out of that range, and is almost worthless when fighting enemies who also have a Lazer.

The Large ship has massive shields and weapons, but moves like a pregnant Yak. It also has ten weapons like the Medium ship.

1 - This weapon shoots bursts of blue energy bolts.
2 - This weapon leaves a trail of green energy glob mines.
3 - This weapon shoots bursts of green energy bolts.
4 - This weapon shoots alternating white energy bolts from both front and back.
5 - This weapon shoots dual plasma bolts.
6 - This weapon shoots massive bursts of blue-green energy bolts.
7 - This weapon shoots a surrounding hail of white energy globs.
8 - This weapon shoots even more massive bursts of blue-green energy globs.
9 - This weapon shoots dual missiles. It doesn't have infinite ammo. Each Power Up after the next one will give you 15 more missiles.
10 - The last weapon isn't actually a weapon. If your shields are above 25%, this will raise them. The longer you hold down the firing button, the more it raises your shields.

Along with the general skill level setting, each of the User ships has a different level of skill required. In my opinion, the large ship is the easiest to use, while the small ship requires more finesse and less brute force. the medium ship falls somewhere in between.

Cast of Characters

Anything in DEBRIS can kill you, some things more quickly than others.
This list is roughly in order of how dangerous they are.

Rocks - These just float around and bump into you. When hit enough times they split into two smaller rocks. The smallest rocks just disintegrate.

Ufo - Wanders aimlessly and shoots energy bolts.

Fish - comes directly for you and spews energy globs.

Fighter - Swoops towards you with rapid firing energy bolts.

Star - Fast moving kamikaze mine. Get it before it gets you.

Marauder - Fighter Mark II, it comes at you shooting bursts of energy globs then broadsides you with rapid fire energy bolts.

Cloaked Dude - This one's invisible until it's un top of you shooting plasma bolts. You can shoot it when it's invisible, if you can find it.

Vampire Bat - Pretty close to pure evil, this one will attatch itself to you and drain your shields, adding them to it's own.

Missile Platform - Fires four missiles at a time, then runs like hell.

Berserker - Proving that size doesn't matter, this one fires continuously at anything and moves like a crazy thing.

Dreadnaught - Big and mean, this one has heavy shields and fires missiles and industrial strength energy bolts and globs. It is slow and unmaneuverable, but it can still blow you to bits from across the screen.

Wasp - Pure death in a nice, neat package, this one fires unrelenting lazers.

Evil Twins

There are three enemy ships that are a little bit smarter (?) than the average enemy ship. In fact, they're counterparts to the three user ships. The only problem is, you've got to fight all three of them, no matter what ship you choose.

Small Evil Twin - Small, fast, but weak.
Medium Evil Twin - Medium sized, Meduim speed, medium weapons
Large Evil Twin - Big, slow, but enough firepower to waste just about anything.

Fido

You do have one helper that's only available with the small ship. After you max out your lazers, every power up you get will produce one of these. It'll fly around, dodge shots, and help you figh the abd guys. It can also pick up power ups, increasing its shields. Beware, however. The enemy has it's own Fido's.
